We suggest this hiking trip through the Picos de Europa. The Vindio Ring runs through the western massif of Picos de Europa, alternating forests, high mountain environments and the spectacular Cares route.
The Picos de Picos ring is one of the most interesting proposals for hiking in the high mountains of Picos de Europa. It runs through the eastern massif and our trip is designed to be done in 5 days, including the approach day to Vegarredonda.
It is necessary to be in good shape, as the Anillo Vindio consists of more than 62 km with more than 3600 metres of elevation gain. Of course, a very authentic option to experience Picos de Europa.

UNIQUE LOCATIONS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK
The western massif of Picos de Europa is the origin of the National Park. A high mountain environment, internationally known for its steep slopes and steep walls.
It is rich in geology, but also in nature. From endemic species to leafy forests, from endangered birds such as the bearded vulture to the controversial wolf.
PICOS DE EUROPA'S VILLAGES
But nature is not all in Picos de Europa. This paradise would not be what it is without human presence. We will also visit some of the villages on the León side of the mountain and come across old sheepfolds and huts in the mountains.
And you will learn a little of the history of Picos de Europa. From the Neolithic period to the present day, this place has been inhabited by humans. You will also get to know details of what the National Park is all about, with its nuances, lights and shadows.
Travel Plan
DAY 1
Approach to Vegarredonda
We go up to the Pandecarmen car park and approach the Vegarredonda refuge, where we will spend the night. Optional, route to the Ordiales viewpoint.
DAY 2
VEGARREDONDA - VEGABAÑO
Perhaps the toughest stage of the Vindio Ring. But it may also be the most spectacular. More than 1100 metres of positive difference in altitude and 1300 metres of negative difference in altitude, with a good part of the route over 2000 metres, contemplating the western massif in all its splendour.
DAY 3
VEGABAÑO - CAÍN
A long but relaxed route, which after an initial ascent starts a continuous descent of about 1300 metres of negative height difference, to end up sleeping in Cain, in the middle of the Cares Route.
DAY 4
CAIN - VEGA DE ARIO
A short but intense route. After entering the Cares route, we will ascend the Canal de Trea. A difference in altitude of more than 1200 metres that we will take slowly, slowly but surely, to the Vega de Ario refuge.
DAY 5
VEGA DE ARIO - VEGARREDONDA - PANDECARMEN
Although it is a short route without excessive gradient, it is a real leg-breaker through a rocky chaos. In case of heavy fog, this route could be replaced by the variant that passes through the Covadonga Lakes. Return to Pandecarmen car park and end of the trip.
